Legal protection of bats

All the species of bats found in Sri Lanka are protected species under Section 30(1) of the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance.Hence it is an offence to:
* Kill’
* Capture,
* Keep in ones possession or custody of any bat or part,
* Sell or expose to sell any bat or parts
* The use of any instrument or device to commit any of the above offences.
*** It is clear that people who capture Painted Bats or any other species of bats for whatever purposes,including those who are proudly showing themselves in these photographs have committed offences under FFPO.
Any person who violated these can be arrested without a warrant.
