Wood Sandpiper

This bird is a winter visitor that is seen mostly in the Dry Zone but is also seen in Wet Zone in smaller numbers. It has been observed by me in Wet Zone habitats such as Bellanwila-Attidiya Sanctuary,Kotte-Sri Jayawardanapura Sanctuary and the Talangama Tank.
It is an active bird that walks about searching for prey and has long legs that trail behind when flying. The brown back and wings have white spots that show conspicuously.
Saw one today in the Wet Park,Nugegoda. It is the first record of it for me from both the Wet Park and from the Nugegoda area. This record raises the list of birds seen by me at Wet Park to 60.
Incidentally, saw two Little Terns there later on,raising the list to 61 species.
